Head of the Charles Regatta

What a lovely autumn Saturday! Husband and I are at the Head of the Charles Regatta as you are reading this, enjoying the beautiful day and watching the race. In case you have not heard of it, here is a little background:
"There are many reasons to love October in New England, but the Head of the Charles Regatta just might take the gold medal: making crisp walks down Newbury Street and afternoons of apple-picking actually wane in comparison to this rich riverside ritual.
This tournament was founded in 1965 by three members of the Cambridge Boat Club and a Harvard sculling instructor named Ernest Artlett. Intended to emulate the popular boat races held throughout Artlett’s native England, the two-day rowing event was met with immediate enthusiasm and praise. After all: what could be better than a weekend spent along the picturesque Charles River, basking in the soft autumn sunshine among cheering fans, friends and family? Today, the Head of the Charles is the embodiment of sportsmanship and longstanding tradition. Bringing together more than 8,000 athletes from around the world to compete in 55 events, it has become the world’s largest tournament of its kind."

When I received an invitation from Gilt Group to a private party before the regatta, I just couldn't resist buying tickets. Here is what sold me:
"We know the perfect way for you to celebrate in style. The venue? None other than The Charles Hotel’s Noir Bar—a 1940s-inspired watering hole where specialty cocktails and gourmet bites draw in dozens of stylish guests. In honor of this iconic tournament, Gilt City is throwing a four-hour private party for members on October 23. In addition to passed hors d’oeuvres and a stationary dessert bar, you’ll indulge in your fill of complimentary bloody Mary’s, bellinis, mimosas and hot chocolate before heading over to the race grounds to enjoy the race from your post-Charles cloud of delight."

Hors d'ouevres and desserts? YUM! Bellinis? Pretty please! Mimosas? Have we MET?! What a delightful day! I think this deserves a special outfit...

Here's hoping you are all having a fabulous weekend! XO

I used to go to that race with my college crew team! I wanted to go so bad this year, some of my teammates were rowing in the alumni race, unfortunately I couldn't make it :(
